Hi there! My name is Stephanie (Steph) and I am happy you are here. Whether this is your first-time entering counseling or not, my goal is to meet you where you are   on your journey and to help you reach your goals. I would like to start off our journey by telling you a bit about my life and what led me to become a therapist.

 

I am originally from Louisville, KY, (Go Cards!) where my family and best friends still reside. I moved to Texas a few years ago because I wanted to get a fresh start on life. As a child and adolescent, I experienced multiple traumas and was also bullied for my appearance. I was fortunate enough during this time to have found a therapeutic outlet in playing sports, my favorite being volleyball. Being an athlete taught me the importance of taking care of oneself both physically and mentally, which is a big part as to why I view each client holistically.  

 

Although I excelled in sports and seemed to befriend anyone, I still felt little passion for life. That is until I took my first psychology course in which I discovered the field of counseling and psychotherapy. Although I had never been in counseling, and could not comprehend what that would even look like, I was fascinated with the complexity of the brain and how people came to be. It was here that I knew I wanted to help people who were dealt a challenging hand or needed guidance on how to get out of their own rock bottom.

 

Years later, I continued to dismiss counseling as an option until more life happened. In college, I was assaulted, cheated on by my partner, and diagnosed with ovarian cancer all within six months. I began using substances in excess, hanging around “the wrong crowd,” and lost self-respect. I was unhappy, physically and mentally drained, and to be quite frank, do not remember many of the experiences that occurred during this time…trauma can do that to you! Thankfully, in 2015, I simultaneously beat cancer’s butt, entered counseling for the first time, and graduated with honors with my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sport Administration from the University of Louisville.

 

Post-graduation, I had to have hip and eye surgeries and continue hormone therapy, causing my depression and anxiety to seep back in. I could not play sports, go to work, or spend much time with my two best friends. It was at this point that I had enough and needed that fresh start. So, I applied and was accepted to work on my Master’s in Counseling at the University of North Texas in 2017.

 

When I arrived in Texas, I knew I needed to continue therapy. So, I googled a therapist near my home and began unpacking my entire life with her. Through our therapeutic relationship, I gained an appreciation for counseling and am grateful for the growth, healing, and self-love I gained in the process. On the flip side, as a therapist, I came to understand that therapy is more than 50-minutes once a week. As your therapist, I go beyond our 50-minute sessions. I research topics related to your concerns when we are not together, I think of you when I see something that reminds me of you, and I confidentially talk to colleagues about you to ensure I am providing you with the best therapy possible. It is more than just 50-minutes because it is important to me that I am providing you the best service I can.

 

In 2019, I graduated with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas. As a student, I learned about what it means to treat clients holistically. Ive had opportunities to work with student-athletes, cultural and ethnic minorities, veterans, people with addictions, disabilities, personality disorders, and eating disorders, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people who needed a place to vent, untangle their thoughts, and find new ways to solve problems.

 

In my free time, you can find me in the gym, hiking, relaxing at home with my cat, Millie, hanging out with friends, watching Netflix documentaries, and curling up with a good book.
